Over 24,000 Houses and Buildings Torched in Early 2023

At least 81,899 houses and buildings (including religious buildings) have been torched and destroyed since the coup two years ago. Of that number, almost 30% (at least 24,138 houses and buildings) were burned down in the first six months of 2023. More than 72% of arson attacks in the whole country (at least 59,225 arson attacks) occurred in several villages within the Sagaing Region. The Magway Region had the second largest share of arson attacks with approximately 12,550, followed by Karen State with at least 2,161.
